so your neighbor leeches all the fertility off your land, depleting it. your wasting time and money turning your land slowly into desert. the only way to bring major fertility to the ground is to allow animals to graze down the land at least once a year. this gets rid of plant growth that takes too long to degrade back into the soil. it also mulches the land so the amount of carrying capacity for plants on the land reduces. reduced productivity slows fertile soil growth. if the dead plant matter is allowed to constantly build up without being eaten then it builds up and up and up over time. the harvesting of hay from your land is just depleting the nutrients in soil and never returning it like it would return via animal droppings. you should let the animals do the work for you so your not wasting your time push mowing every 2 weeks.

I am getting close to zeroing on raw land... I appreciate your perspective. I have kept hens in the past, (I had been gifted a high end boy's fort, which was easily converted into a luxury coup. I had five hens, and I loved keeping hens. I lost three hens, over about 18 months, to a strange neurological condition. I considered each hen a member of the family, and it was hard losing them. I even nursed the hens, keeping them inside during the night. I agree, even hens is a major commitment; and most people do not realize that you cannot just leave hens to their own care. That's why so many chickens end up meeting their demise in one way or another. but hens are one of the hardest working farm animals, so they are worth it. I had the idea of creating 'Chicken Tenders', ie. neighbors participating in the daily care when the homesteader is away. The willing neighbor must be fully vetted, as it takes very little neglect to lose a hen. Just a couple of thoughts. I would also encourage anyone to learn basic food preservation techniques, like brining, fermenting, dehydrating and canning. I have considered starting with 1 - 3 hens(already have a free source, actually), and I would likely coup them inside, in converted dog crates. Easy morning clean-up with paper taken out to compost piles or new building beds.

For airflow I'm interested in how they build the cob structures in Turkey/Jordan. They have high towers with lots of holes in them... I'm wondering if there's structural aspects that could be designed to be more efficient structural way perhaps? I'm interested because I'm going to a cob workshop in September close to where I am in the interior of BC Canada and would like to one day build my home. -building orientation, window placement/amount of windows, overhang, use of vegetation for shade, thickness of walls, size of structure, cob/straw etc that factor too in consideration of temperature regulation.

I past one of our common buildings I think it's a medical insurance bldg. Two square planter boxes out front about (2) 2 ft cubes. They're just in front of the entrance. There's no load stresses on them they're made of 1-2 in. Concrete light tan color. Both severely cracked all over. And I'm just going wow. Glad it's not my home that I paid for. I mean they're not going to get them out in one piece and look fairly new.

Thank you. I understand that to much thermal mass is not helping keeping heat out of the house because the thermal mass will take on to much heat if the hot wheather continues for weeks. I understand that it would be better to have highly isolated walls and make some of the interrior inside walls between the rooms in cob, only;. What do you think ?

Sir. I have 40 to 45 degree in Summer ( 8 months ) and in winter 10 to 18 degree ( 4 months ) No snow . So what kind of foundation I chose?

do you have any plans to build a straw clay or hempcrete wall where the framing is surrounded by the infill? As opposed to between. Idea being that surrounding the framing will get rid of the thermal bridging from the frames. Would love to hear your thoughts on that.

Quick question; would it be a valuable path the build cobs walls around XPS foam sheets (example 12 inches of cob, then 4 inches of XPS foam, then another 12 inches of cob)? We are thinking this would be the best of both worlds; temperature regulation for the exterior and interior portions, with a slowing effect on the temperature transfer.

I'm curious about the concrete beam. One of the key ways that old cob houses get destroyed in the UK and Ireland is when people put non-breathable renders on them, since the moisture gets trapped inside the cob and eventually leads to collapse. Would the concrete on top of the walls not reduce the breathability of the cob? Should this technique be avoided in wetter climates?
